Due to local and international success with their beers, the Omer Vander Ghinste brewery decided to expand their facility and build a new brewing room. Characteristically during the brewing process, a significant emission of heat is generated, offering both solutions and challenge for this project. Instead of wasting this generated heat, we choose to recuperate it and use it efficiently. Utilizing a well-thought-out ventilation system, heat is recovered and used to warm the rest of the building during the cooler winter season. In the warmer summer months, passive cooling is used to expel the excess heat generated and during the evening hours, the building is brought to a low temperature. Given the high thermal inertia occurring within the building, it takes considerable time before the building warms up, limiting overheating of the facility. Since the brewing room is accessible to visitors, it was important to the client to create the right mood and atmosphere interior lighting often creates. Lighting concepts were calculated, and visualized enabling the client to choose the lighting concept that provided the mood and atmosphere they were searching for. Once the lighting concept was chosen, it was executed.
