CM MASSEMBRE HOLIDAY RESORT – PAVILION DURLET
Heer-sur-Meuse, Belgium, Europe
Domain Massembre is the holiday center of the Belgian health insurance fund ‘CM’ and offers a getaway for couples, families, school trips and groups for seminars and events.
On the domain, ‘The Durlet Pavilion’ of 1,000 m² offering 78 beds in 18 rooms was renovated. This was the first step in creating a geothermal network with heat pumps. A renewable energy source that does not pollute and thus a pioneer in the sector of sustainable tourism in Wallonia. Afterward, the new concept will be extensively tested and gained knowledge and results will be shared with the sector.
A BTES field provides the hot water for heating and the plumbing. A second air/water heat pump ensures that the source is never completely discharged.
The geothermal heat pump is dimensioned to function at temperatures up to -10°C.
At milder temperatures, the water/water heat pump stops working from 15°C and the air/water heat pump alternates between heating the domestic hot water and heating the room to room temperature.
The geothermal installation was further expanded with a 60 m² solar collector on the south-facing roof of the pavilion. This feeds a 2,500-liter solar water heater, which provides hot water for the showers in the rooms of the guests. The other half of the roof is covered with a PV installation with a capacity of 13 kWp. This provides sufficient electrical power to drive the heat pump.
The rooms are equipped with fan coil units to provide cooling at warm outside temperatures.
